Directory Integration

For Windows-based networks, Elektron supports authentication using Active Directory accounts, while on Mac OS X Server, Elektron can authenticate users with Open Directory accounts. This allows you to apply your existing authentication infrastructure to your WLAN, and simplifies Wi-Fi user account management.

Authentication Options

In addition to Windows and Mac OS X directory support, Elektron allows you to authenticate your WLAN users with several additional methods. These include support for generic directories using LDAP, SQL databases using ODBC, legacy RADIUS servers, and a separate, Elektron-maintained database of user accounts. What's more, Elektron can apply different authentication methods based on the user's domain.

Legacy RADIUS Support

If your network includes a legacy RADIUS server that lacks support for Wi-Fi protocols like PEAP and EAP-TTLS, Elektron can provide a front end to your server. Wi-Fi access points connect to Elektron, which unmarshals the Wi-Fi request and forward the inner username and password to the legacy RADIUS server, relaying the server's response to the access point via the PEAP or EAP-TTLS tunnel. This allows you to retain your existing RADIUS server investment while extending support for the latest Wi-Fi protocols.

Authorization Policies

Elektron includes support for authorization policies, which give network administrators control over when and where users may access the network. Policies may be based on the time of day, the access point to which the user is connecting, the groups to which the user belongs, and even the result result of an external script. Once a policy is applied, it may limit (based on RADIUS attributes) or deny access to the network.

Standard RADIUS Protocols

In addition to the Wi-Fi protocols PEAP, LEAP, EAP-TLS, EAP-FAST, and EAP-TTLS, Elektron includes support for more basic protocols such as PAP and CHAP. With these protocols, Elektron may be used as an authenticator for devices such as VPN concentrators and firewalls, allowing you to centralize your authentication services.
